Colorado Ski Trip Weekend

We have been wanting to do a Colorado ski trip for the last couple of year and we were so excited to finally get something on the books! We had such a great time and here is everything we did.

Thursday:

Thursday we fly from DC to Denver and landed at about 2:30 pm and immediately grabbed our rental car and headed out for the first leg of our trip- Breckenridge.

We stayed at the Village at Breckenridge which was technically ski-in-ski-out off of peak 8. The weird part about staying at the Village is that you essentially pay for the type of unit you want (3 bedroom, for example), but you don’t know what unit you have (or what your unit looks like) prior to check-in. Luckily, it all worked out and our accommodations were nice and comfortable!

When we got in, we pretty much immediately went to dinner at Aurum Food & Wine, which was really delicious. The service was great and the food was so good that I didn’t have the time to get pictures.

Their menu changes often, but if you happen to go in the next few weeks, I would recommend getting the Korean Fried Chicken, either of the salads (wedge or Caesar), beef tartare, cioppino and the chicken entrée.

The town of Breckenridge is so great- it is quaint and charming with so many food options and cute stores. Even if you aren’t skiing, there is a ton to do here!

Friday:

Friday was our big ski day! It was so much fun and there are so many runs to take at Breckenridge. You could ski for a week and still not hit everything- there is so much variety! We really lucked out with clear blue skies for both of our ski days.

We stopped for lunch at Vista Haus, which is a lodge on the slopes that provides all the ski-lodge-esque food you want on your ski day. (Chicken fingers, chili, Gatorade, etc.). I would recommend making a reservation so you have a table waiting (especially during busy season).

After skiing, we got ready and went to walk around Breckenridge before dinner. We stopped by the Toyota Ice Sculpture competition and stopped into a bar with live music (lots of options on this front, but we ended up at the upstairs bar of our dinner reservation at a fun “towny” bar.

We ate dinner at a casual steakhouse place called The Salt Creek Steakhouse. If you are looking for something a bit fancier, this is not the spot, but the service was good, and the food was delicious!

Saturday:

Saturday we skied a bit more and then walked around Breck some more!

We stopped at Crepes a la Cart for crepes and hot chocolate which were delicious but the wait was about 30 minutes long.

Before heading back to Denver, we grabbed lunch at a burrito shack, Tacos Y Burritos, on the main street of Breckenridge and everything was really tasty!

After lunch, we made the 2-ish hour trek to Denver and checked into the Kimpton Born in Downtown Denver. The hotel itself is so nice and comfortable, but the location isn’t the best unless you have a reason to be downtown.

The hotel is walking distance to Union Station (a train station with fun food options) and a cool area we walked through called the Dairy Block that was filled with small businesses and fun looking bars!

We walked from our hotel to the RiNo area (River North) and stopped into a brewery, Ratio Beerworks, and a bar called Finn’s Manor before dinner. Both were super fun and I would imagine even more fun when it is warm out!

We had the most incredible meal at Safta, Alon Shaya’s Denver spot, where we pretty much ordered everything on the menu. Some of the highlights included the egg hummus, tahini hummus, pickle plate, falafel and the pomegranate lamb.

Sunday:

Sunday we met some friends for breakfast at Fox Run Café, where I had a really delicious breakfast burrito and then we walked through the Denver City Park.

After lunch we explored historic Larimer Square (not much going on, but pretty architecture) and drove through a few other neighborhoods.

We then made our way back to the RiNo area to have lunch at the Denver Central Market which was so fun- I could have spent all day there. There are so many food/treat options and the area is really great to shop around in.

Later that evening, we had dinner at Uchi, which is definitely a scene. The space is huge and even on a Sunday night, was packed. The food was really great and we had a fun time!

Monday:

Monday we had breakfast at the hotel restaurants, which was surprisingly good, and then drove out to Red Rocks Amphitheater before our flight.

Overall, we had a really great time- I loved Breckenridge and was happy to see Denver. I will definitely be back to ski CO!
