A (Special) Weekend in New York City

I was just in New York City for a very special visit- wedding dress shopping! I met my mom and sister in the city for 3 days (and 3 nights) and here is everything we did!

We stayed at the hotel called Sixty Soho located in the heart of the Soho neighborhood. I have actually never stayed down in Soho before so it was really nice to be in a new neighborhood. Sixty Soho was a great hotel- super swanky and modern, and the rooms were clean and cozy. If you are looking for a quiet spot with massive rooms, this place isn’t for you, but if you want a spot that is in a prime location next to bars and restaurants, this is your spot!

Thursday:

I got into New York City on Thursday night and went straight from Penn Station to the hotel. My mom got in a bit later in the night, so we decided to order room service from the hotel’s restaurant, Bistro Leo. We got French onion soup, roast chicken and steak frites and everything was super delicious!

Friday:

Friday morning, my sister arrived and I went to grab some coffee down the street from the hotel at a super cute spot called Now or Never Coffee. The coffee was delicious and I happened to get there are they were pulling freshly baked croissants out of the oven!

We spent most of the day on Friday shopping around Soho and popping in and out of shops!.

We had lunch at Shuka, which was probably my favorite meal of the trip in Soho. We got the chicken and lamb sausage kebabs, the tarmasalata, the beet hummus, the Turkish cigars, schug and the fatoush salad. It was sooooo delicious! I can’t wait to go back!

Before dinner, we walked around the West Village and popped into the cutest, sister-owned print shop, Greenwhich Letter Press.

We had an amazing dinner at Jeffrey’s Grocery in the West Village. This was my second time there and I really love it. The service is great, the atmosphere is cozy and cool and the food is incredible. If you are a big seafood tower fan, this spot is for you!

After dinner we went to the Duplex, a West Village institution, for the live piano and singing!

Saturday

We got up early on Saturday and went around the corner from the hotel to Pi Bakery, a Greek Bakery/ fast-casual spot with the most delicious desserts and pies. We got a veggie frittata, an almond croissant and some coffee. I wish there was a Pi Bakery near me in DC, I would be there all the time!

Next on the agenda for Saturday was dress shopping- we went to both Jenny Yoo and Sarah Seven and I am happy to report that I found a dress!

Between bridal shopping, we stopped at Boucherie in the West Village for lunch. I love French-style bistros and this one did not disappoint! We ordered the nicoise salad, the steak sandwich (which was a definite highlight), the pate mousse, and the Lyonnaise salad.

For an afternoon snack/ celebratory moment, my mom surprised us with Caviar Russe for caviar (with all of the fixings) and some Russian vodka martinis. My parents have been coming here for years and the service is really unlike anything else! It was so special and a nice way to celebrate finding a wedding dress and really kick off the year before I get married.

After caviar, we headed back down the West Village for dinner at Café Dante. I was so hungry I forgot to snap a picture but it was great! We split the chicken parmesan, the pappadelle all’ragu and the bucatini all’amatriciana. The bucatini was the real winner for me!

Sunday:

Sunday we had an early breakfast at Sadelle’s and it was so delicious! Probably some of the best lox I have had in a while. It was thinly cut and super flavorful.

It was a great and quick trip but we managed to fit in some great meals and I can’t wait to go back.
