A Wedding Weekend in New Orleans
For President’s Day Weekend, we went down to New Orleans for a friend’s wedding and it also happened to be the first weekend of Mardi Gras! Check out everything we got up to and ate!
Thursday:
We arrived in New Orleans from DC on Thursday afternoon and checked into our hotel, Hotel Monteleone, in the French Quarter. Hotel Monteleone is a historic hotel in the heart of the city and also houses the famous bar, the Carousel Bar. I like staying here because it is in the middle of it all!
For dinner, we headed across the city to Luvi, an Asian restaurant in the West Riverside area of the city. THIS. MEAL. WAS.INCREDIBLE. This was definitely my favorite meal of the weekend. We pretty much ordered everything on the menu and everything was incredible. Literally everything was delicious, but some of the stand-outs to me where the Dragon Boat (seared tuna, flying fish roe, smoked soy sauce), the Stoplight (yellowtail, jalapeno, cilantro), Crawfish Wontons (fried LA crawfish, sweet corn, chili oil), Shanghai Spring Rolls (fried pork, cabbage roll), and the Mala Holla (spicy beef shank, cilantro, peanuts, ghost chili oil).
After dinner, we went straight to Bourbon Street to check everything out and of course, we had to get some adult slushies.
Friday:
On Friday morning, we picked up coffee from French Truck Coffee, which was sooooo good. We got the cafe au lait and it was delicious. We went back a few times during the trip.
For brunch, we went to Alma Cafe, a modern Honduran eatery in the Bywater neighborhood. Alma Cafe was AMAZING. The vibe was great, casual and homely, and the food was outstanding.
After brunch, we walked around the Bywater neighborhood and admired all of the Mardi Gras decor.
We spend the rest of the afternoon at the National WWII Museum, which I would highly recommend!
We obviously needed an afternoon seafood break after the museum, so we went to Acme Oyster House for charbroiled oysters, raw oysters and a shrimp Po boy. (Charbroiled oysters are a must in New Orleans).
After our snack, we walked back up Bourbon Street during the day and walked to Jackson Square and then back to the hotel.
For dinner, we went to Alon Shaya’s restaurant, Shaya for some Israeli food and it was delicious. Alon never disappoints and his pita is some of the best outside of Israel.
Saturday:
Saturday was the day we were in town for, a friend’s wedding! During the day before the wedding, we grabbed brunch at Palladar 551 back over in the Bywater area. I got a delicious breakfast pizza!
Between brunch and the wedding, we stopped by a book store in the French Quarter and then spent the rest of the time getting ready!
The wedding itself was at Galerie de Galatoire, a wedding venue owned by Galatoire’s restaurant. The wedding was amazing and so much fun!!
Sunday:
Sunday we slept in and then went to (a very hungover) brunch at Miss River in the Four Seasons hotel and another Alon Shaya. This place is definitely swanky/pricier, but I really loved my shrimp and grits I ordered!
Overall, this was a fun and food-filled trip!!
