The Round Up: March 2025

Food:

  • My husband was gone the first weekend of March and I decided to do some meals with Korean rice cakes! The first dish I made was a stir fry with ground pork, Napa cabbage and scallions and then I made this Chinese rice cake soup from the Woks of Life blog. Both were incredibly delicious and comforting.

  • I actually spent the second weekend of March back home in the Bay Area and my parent’s took me to Elena’s Mexican Restaurant for lunch in West Portal. It was incredibly delicious! I loved the chile relleno and I loved how much seafood they had incorporated into the menu (the crab enchiladas were nuts!).

  • When I was home, my dad and I decided to wanted to do a steak au poivre with frites when we were home and it honestly came out delicious. We did a steak au poivre, some delicious baked home fries, a frisee salad and some roasted asparagus and snap peas.

  • Now that I am obsessed with Khmer food, I had to try Lunette in the SF Ferry building and it was super delicious. We had the classic pork and shrimp noodle soup, a curry with eggplant, tofu, and potato as well as a noodle that was essentially like pad see ew that had more gravy. It was SO good.

  • No trip back home to the Bay Area is complete without some sort of sushi meal. This trip we tried the omakase at Robin in Hayes Valley and it was nothing short of stunning. We had such a fun meal - every single bit was unique and fun but let the fish shine. I really liked that their omakase is a sliding scale, in that you can tell the server how much food you want or how much money you want to spend, and the server will basically guide you through that experience and check in on amount as you go. You will not leave hungry!

  • My parents recently went to Aziza for brunch and could not stop raving about it, so I had to try it for myself. Everything we had was really delicious. I am not a huge brunch gal, because I can make eggs at home, but this was really a unique experience. Everything was incredibly flavorful and were really fun takes on some classic brunch bites.

  • Lucky me, it was still crab season in SF when I was home, so we picked up some delicious steamed crabs at the farmers market and had a really lovely meal at home.

  • The Jewish holiday of Purim falls in March which means we made some hamentaschen. This year, we went for poppy seed, raspberry and chocolate.

  • I didn’t snag any pictures but we had a lovely lunch with friends at The Landing Restaurant in Marblehead.

  • I have been a Mill Valley Pasta Company fan since the beginning but this is the first time I have tried their “antica collection” and honestly, the pasta was incredible. Since it is made with an ancient / locally grown wheat, it has a delightful nutty taste and the texture was perfect.

  • After walking and driving by Ebi Sushi in Somerville so many times, we finally gave it a try and it was excellent. If you are looking for a more casual sushi spot that doesn’t skimp on fish quality, this is your spot! We can’t wait to go back!

Other:

  • I watched Antoni Porowski’s new show on Disney+ called No Taste Like Home and I really enjoyed it! It combines my two favorite things, family history and food!

  • I have been in a bit of a reading slump lately, but there is nothing like a John Boyne book to pull me right out! I read All the Broken Places this month and absolutely loved it! It is a historical fiction about WW2 but not in the way that you might think. It talks about guilt and memory and I really recommend it.

  • Like I mentioned above, I went home for a few days at the start of March and it was truly such a mood boosting trip. It was nice to be 1:1 with my parents, be in my childhood home, with some sunshine, and just have a nice and relaxing time.

  • I ordered these shoes, the Nike P-6000, this month since I saw one of my favorite fashion ladies on Instagram wear them and they are honestly so comfy. I can’t wait to wear them all spring!

  • I got promoted in March, so that was a lovely ego boost, as well!
