The RoundUp: June 2021

This month, I am starting to feel like a full-functioning human again! I went to work without a mask, I went on a trip with my friends, I booked a flight to CA to see my sister in July!

Favorite Foodie Things:

  • As I start going back to restaurants to eat (safely, outside), I will share some of my favorite experiences. I started off June by going to one of my favorite DC spots, Anju, for some delicious Korean food. If you haven’t been to Anju, it truly should be top of your list- the food is incredible, the service is amazing and I promise you will enjoy your time there! For this meal, we went all out and ordered the Mandu and Yukhoe (beef tartare) to start, and then the Chikin (Korean fried chicken), Ssam Board with pork belly and the Dak Jjim (Korean chili-braised chicken thighs with potato and onion) as our main meals.

  • This month I tried Tatte’s Red Pepper Cashew dip and let me just tell you that is a major game changer. It is probably my new favorite dip to have in the refrigerator.

  • I wouldn’t say this is necessarily specific to June BUT we have been buying/drinking the Zeke’s Coffee Mexican blend for about 5-6 months now and it is just sooooo delicious. It is rich and creamy but not too dark and bitter. Zeke’s is a local DC/DMV brand and you can buy it at many farmer’s markets, Whole Foods and other markets around DC!

  • To wrap up the month of June, we went to Mystic Islands, New Jersey, which is sort of near the Jersey Shore. With that, meant a lot of food and a lot of friend time! Some highlights of the food part were some lobster rolls from Allen’s Clam Bar and of course, our wonderful friends from New York City, brought some of our favorite things from Barney Greengrass, Zabar’s and more!

Other Things That Made Me Happy:

  • I have been LOVING Central Park on Apple TV. This is an animated, musical show (yes, you heard that right) with the most amazing cast (basically half the cast of Hamilton- Daveed Diggs, Leslie Odom Jr. Emmy Raver-Lampman, Christopher Jackson , and then some other amazing people like Stanley Tucci, Tony Shalhoub, Fred Armisen, Tituss Burgess, Kristen Bell) and Josh Gad is in it and he’s one of the writers. It is so funny and the music is really incredible!

  • While we are still talking about TV/movies, I also watched In the Heights on HBO and it was sooooo great. I have been listening to the music from In the Heights for years and it was so nice to see it come to life!!

  • I know I am about 10 years late to the party, but recently I just cannot get enough of Lululemon! I am not really buying workout clothes, but rather some everyday clothes! I have been wearing my Everywhere Belt Bag (in black) pretty much everyday for the last year. I wear it crossbody and it fits everything I could possibly need. I also recently bought the Stretch High-Rise Jogger, and they are like a light and stretchy material, so if you have been wearing cotton joggers for the last year like me, this is a nice alternative that don’t look so schlumpy out of the house. Lastly, I have been living in the All Yours Tee (I got the Cloudy Wash Black and got it in a big size so it is pretty large). I kid you not, I have about 75 other things on my wish list, so you will probably see some more Lululemon items in my next posts.

  • Since I left my gym (thanks, COVID), I think I have tried about 6 different online workout programs and platforms. After much trial and error (aka me getting bored), I have finally found something I enjoy! Barre 3! I have been using their online classes for about 2 months now and I just can’t get enough. It keeps me moving, so my heart rate is up and still provides great strength training!

  • Like I started to mention above, we took a trip to Mystic Islands, New Jersey with our friends and stayed in a wonderful airbnb that was so perfect for lounging and hanging out with a group!! I can’t tell you how wonderful it was to be able to eat, cook and hangout outside. It was definitely the most sun-time I have gotten since probably Summer 2019!!
