The RoundUp: July 2021
July was a good time! Despite being a million degrees in DC, I really had a good time in July!!
Favorite Foodie Things:
Okay, this might be the easiest/lazy-girl lunch ever but it is BEYOND delicious and light-ish for summer. My friend introduced me to the Good Culture Cottage Cheese (Double Cream!!!) and I swear it tastes just like Israeli cottage cheese (IYKYK). I love eating my cottage cheese with come chopped veggies (tomatoes, cucumbers, onion, parsley, peperoncini) and a generous amount of salt and pepper.
I finally got my hands on some Rose Avenue Bakery goodies!! For those who are out of the loop, Rose Avenue bakery creating the most incredible Asian-inspired pastries. Everything we tried as just absolutely delicious- familiar pastry styles with unique flavors. We got a passion fruit donut, mango tajin donut, strawberry rose lychee donut (which was my favorite), ensaymada cruffin, strawberry passion kougin amann, scallion pancake bun, scallion egg tart, and spam musubi croissant (my other favorite).
I finally made a trip to Charlottesville, VA (see below) and with that came returning to my favorite brewery in the area, Champion Brewing, and trying Lampo Neapolitan Pizzeria for the first time- it did not disappoint. It was so stinkin’ delicious and the staff was so amazing!! We got a prosciutto pizza with arugula (omg) and a meatball pizza (omg) and they were THE BEST!!
Other Things That Made Me Happy:
In July I made my first trip to Charlottesville, VA since Fall 2019. I work in Charlottesville a lot (aka take work trips) and before COVID times, I was driving there about 5-10 times per years. This visit was SO needed and nice and I forgot (no I didn’t) how much I loved it out there. I met a colleague there and we spent the day visiting Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyard, Albermarle Cider Works and then we walked around the historic university, grabbed some pizza (see above) and some beer at my favorite Charlottesville brewery, Champion Brewery.
My girlfriends and I took a very long walk from Georgetown all along the waterfront, down to the Lincoln Memorial, Over to the Jefferson Memorial, around the Tidal Basin, in front of the Washington Monument, up to the White House and all the way back home. I truly cannot remember the last time I went down to the Mall/went to see the monuments. I feel like once you have been in DC as long as I have (10 years this August), it is just not something you think about doing very often! It was so nice and a scenic way to exercise!!
I got to see my sister two weekends in a row and we got to spend some time 1:1! When we see each other it is usually with our parents or at our family home, so it was nice to hang out as adults on our own!
