Summer Getaway: Mystic Islands, NJ

To wrap up the month of June, we spent 3 nights in Mystic Islands, New Jersey (part of Little Egg Harbor Township), about 20 miles from the official Jersey Shore (LBI).

Our airbnb was located in a community that is spread across some canals that lead to the ocean. The house itself was so nice and well equipped for hunkering down for the weekend. It had plenty of room for the six of us to hang out inside and in the outside. There was a large patio that backed up directly to the water and two additional decks right off the house.

During the day we were able to lounge on the daybeds or chairs and at night we were able to BBQ our dinners, eat outside and sit around the fire pit.

On the first floor, there are three bedrooms, one bathroom, a sitting room with a large TV, a laundry room and then a covered outdoor room with a bar, ping pong table and another TV. On the 2nd flood is your main living area with an open kitchen-dining-living room. There are two couches, and a TV and plenty of space to work from (if you are WFH-there). This floor also has a large deck with a high-top table and some seating. This was the perfect place to have your morning coffee. Lastly, there were two lofted areas, one with a double bed and with a little Juliette balcony and the other with three twin beds (which seemed perfect for some kids).

The townships around the house were not much, but had everything you need for a weekend (soft serve, Allen’s Clam Bar, a liquor store, pizza, etc). I would definitely recommend bringing food to cook in with you. One night we made some grilled chicken, zucchini, and eggplant, and served it with a jeweled couscous and Israeli salad. The other nights we made tacos with homemade tortillas, chicken tings, grilled corn, peppers, and onions. It was so nice to be able to grill (something we don’t do as much as we should in DC).

While this area is not full of things to do/tourist attractions, I would definitely go back. It was peaceful and just incredibly nice to be near water when you wake up in the morning!!
