Everything we ate in london over a long weekend - January 2025
My husband and I just got back from 5 days in London and I wanted to share everything we ate! We were in London in August 2023 so this trip around, we wanted to try some new spots we didn’t make it to last time.
We had such a lovely time eating, drinking, shopping and going to a soccer game! I was really expecting it to be FREEZING in January and it was actually pretty mild - or mild compared to Boston.
Millie’s Lounge: Ok, this was a repeat from last time but we did an afternoon tea at Millie’s Lounge in the Ned Hotel. If you are looking for a classic British tea, in a stunning environment, this is the spot for you. Honestly, I could go without the full top tier of sweets and just go for the finger sandos and scones.
Fortitude Bakehouse: Also another repeat but how can you go to London and NOT go to Fortitude?! Fortitude is tucked away on a side street near the British museum and it truly should not be missed. The coffee is amazing, the staff is chatty and helpful and the pastries (both savory and sweet) are incredible. This has to be one of my favorite, more fancy sausage rolls.
Honey & Co: This was the first time we tried Honey & Co and it was such a happy accident. We were looking for something to eat one morning and we wandered right into this place in Bloomsbury. Honey & Co is a Middle Eastern café with a ton of familiar flavors for my husband and I. We had some amazing coffees, a delicious cheese bureka, a spinach pastry and the most perfect chocolate and cardamom rugelach.
Happy Sky Bakery: This was also a spot we walked by a few times and then one morning I finally decided to get in line. Happy Sky is serving up some serious Japanese pastries and goodies. Their flavors were really cool and I got a karaage chicken sando that was * chef’s kiss*.
The Breakfast Club: The last few times I have been to London, we have popped into The Breakfast Club for brunch / breakfast as it always hits the spot. They make an amazing classic English breakfast / fry up and this time I went for their “American brekky” and it was delicious. There is nothing better than British pork sausages. I need to find a place to buy them in the US.
Miznon: If you have been here for a while, you know that if we are in a city with a Miznon, we will be going there. We have been to the London Soho location before and loved it. This time we went for the famous Miznon green beans (which are super easy to make at home) and then two pitas. (One schnitzel and one rotisserie chicken). We are Miznon’s biggest fans!
Mayha: We had the most delicious lunch omakase at Mayha! the staff was friendly and the food was outrageous. We got a lot of nigiri, some sashimi and some warm dishes as well. I would definitely recommend this for lunch or dinner. It was such a treat!
Kricket: Kricket was a super fun spot for dinner - we sat at the bar and got to watch all the cooking. I was really impressed with their innovative dishes and flavors. The stand out to me were the pani puri and the fried chicken. I would definitely go back, but I think Darjeeling Express is still my favorite London Indian food.
BRAT: BRAT was such a treat and cool environment. The whole experience was really fun and lively. I loved watching the open fire cooking and I thought all of their dishes were really unique and innovative. The highlights for me were the flat bread with anchovies, the mushrooms, duck and the cheese cake. If you are doing to London any time soon, this should definitely be on your list.
Dishoom: We realized we actually had never had the Dishoom experience in London and decided on a whim to go to the Carnaby Street location. Everything was delicious, the service was a bit all over the place, but the food was really good and homie. Again, would I go here over Darjeeling? Probably not, but I did really enjoy my meal here and it was nice to check a London classic off my list.
The Baring: We went to a Sunday roast at The Baring in Islington and had such a lovely time. The pub is modern and cozy and the staff was so helpful. We LOVED this meal and everything was perfect. For the Sunday roast, you pick your “meal” and then it comes with the most glorious and crispy roasted potatoes and cabbage. I am still dreaming of the potatoes and their gravy. Also I had an amazing Bloody Mary, too!
Bar Crispin: Our meal at Bar Crispin was probably my favorite and most surprising of the trip. Bar Crispin is a wine bar off Carnaby Street and it was honestly just the most perfect meal. Every bite was better than the next. I LOVED the shrimp sando, the crumpet with beef tartar and their short rib was so clean and perfect. Dessert was delicious and our wines were amazing.
ThongLor Express: I stopped into Thorlong Express for a quick, before-a-soccer-game meal and it was surprisingly delicious! I got a really flavorful panang curry and it really hit the spot.
The Coral Room: This is actually the bar in the hotel we stayed at and it is such a fun vibe! We love stopping in the Coral Room before heading out to dinner. We love their cocktail selection and it is so nice just to go downstairs and get our evening started.
