The Round Up: September 2024
Food:
We kicked off September / Labor Day / our 2nd to last weekend in the DC area with a good old-fashioned Maryland crab boil and I could not have been happier to be up to my elbows in Old Bay.
I was also in Charlottesville for a little less than 24 hours in September and obviously had to grab breakfast at Cou Cou Rachou. It is a mandatory stop every time I am in the area!
I finally caved and got a subscription to Mob and I have never been so obsessed. I have made a handful or recipes already and this was the boost of food inspo I really needed!
I made a chocolate zucchini snaking cake using my own Chocolate Zucchini Bread recipe and it was delicious!
There weren’t a ton of recipes posted this month as we were a bit all over the place and moving to another state, but there is definitely more coming and I can’t wait to share more!
The one place we have tried in Boston since moving here was Dear Annie in Cambridge and we had such a fun night. Dear Annie is a wine bar with fun and funky wines with a really cool “bites” menu. We will definitely be back!
50 seconds after moving away from DC, we were back for a night before a weekend in Charlottesville for a wedding. That night, my gal pals and I tried Amazonia at Causa and it was really fun! The highlights for me were the scallops, the ceviche and the cocktails! I am not dyyyying to go back, but I am really glad I got the opportunity to try it!
While in Charlottesville, we went to one of our favorite spots, Tavola for an incredible meal. We had delicious wine, amazing pasta (the carbonara is unmatched), some eggplant parm and just a lovely evening!
Here are just a smattering of the one-off dinners I made in our new Boston-area home over the last few weeks of September when we were actually home!
Other:
We started September in Gibson Island, MD for Labor Day weekend / our very good friend’s 30th birthday! Nothing make me more happy than waking up near water!
I read Kate Quinn’s new book called The Briar Club and really enjoyed it! It takes place in DC in the 1950’s during the Korean War and McCarthyism and follows a group of women that live in a boarding house all together in Capitol Hill. I won’t give anything else away, but definitely put it on your list if you like Kate Quinn’s other books and like a good historical fiction book.
We treated ourselves to a very large Yeti Hard Cooler in the 65 size for a few reasons (1) we will soon be “backyard” people and (2) I feel very attached to everything in my freezer and want to move it all to my new place… so I needed something to transport it across state lines.
Surprise! We moved to Boston in September!
We also watched Gentleman in Moscow this month and really loved it. I loved the book and it was great to see it come to life in show-form. I thought it was really well done!
One more book rec- I read Portrait of a Thief by Grace D. Li and I seriously could not put it down!
