The RoundUp: September 2022

Favorite Foodie Things:

  • We started September with a trip to the Boston area to visit family and we went to one of our favorite spots in Brookline, Ivory Pearl. Some of the stand-outs were the delicious cocktails, the fresh oysters and then we got this hamachi kama dish with bao buns that I really loved.

  • I also had another trip to Durham, NC in September and got to try out a place that was recommended to me called Littler. Littler is a small restaurant with a great vibe serving up new American food. I loved everything we ate, which included picked NC shrimp, some delicious snapper, prime rib, roasted local beans and an unreal chocolate dessert and cheesecake. I would absolutely go back!

  • We finally went back to HoneyPig for Korean BBQ which, I believe is our first time back since pre-COVID! It was great to be back.

  • I also took a trip back to H Mart in Fairfax, VA to grocery shop and obviously eat at the food court. This is some of my favorite Korean food and a great way to try new things in one spot! We got our favorite bulgogi stone pot and the tteokbokki with fried squid.

  • I have been loving a bowl of dumplings for lunch. Simple, delicious and wildly easy! I like my dumplings with chili oil, soy sauce and Chinese vinegar!

  • Work also took me back to Charlottesville, VA and I made a point to finally try a Thai spot I had driven past for the last 4 years, Monsoon Siam. It was absolutely delicious and I can’t wait to go back every time I go to Charlottesville!

  • September also brings the Jewish High Holidays, or at least Rosh Hashana (the Jewish New Year) this year. For the first night of Rosh, it was just myself and my fiancé and we made braised short ribs, honey and turmeric roast carrots and crispy duck fat potatoes. It was delicious!

  • For the 2nd night of Rosh Hashana, we had some friends over and it was the real feast! To start we had chopped liver, a butter board with figs, and a stewed tomato dish. We started our meal with the most delicious matzo ball soup and challah, and for our main meal we had two kinds of kugel (sweet noodle, and potato), brisket and stuffed cabbage!

Other Things That Made Me Happy:

  • I ordered the Skims Boyfriend Boxer and the Boyfriend T-Shirt to wear as PJ and honestly, I am obsessed. I want it in every color. It is so soft and so comfy and if you are someone who travels, they are super light and take up no space at all.

  • This is not something I ordered in September but it is something I started religiously using in September and it is this laptop stand. I don’t have a standing desk at home, but having your laptop at eye-level and elevated is honestly such a game changer. I don’t know what I was doing without it!

  • We went to our dear friends wedding in Gibson Island, MD and it was the best. It was so stunning, the food was great and we had the best time! I love being in the time of our lives when we get to celebrate our friends’ love!

  • We started/caught up with Abbott Elementary and it is such a good show. The cast is incredible and it has us both laughing out loud.

  • Our wedding count down is officially ON! It is crazy how calm/together I have been for two years, and not it definitely is starting to feel more real and stressful!
