The RoundUp: November 2022

Favorite Foodie Things:

  • While I was home in SF, we stumbled upon a bullet train sushi bar in Japantown called Hikari Sushi and it was actually delicious! The fish quality was wonderful and it was so fun to order off the touch screen and watch the sushi be delivered via bullet train.

  • After our wedding we headed right to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and one of my favorite snack meals was at The Office, where we got guacamole, chips and some delicious drinks right on the beach.

  • One of my other favorite meals in Cabo on this trip, and whenever I go to Cabo is at Edith’s. Edith’s is located downtown and in a lovely environment with a thatched roof and a huge bar. We ordered the table-side Caesar salad, the Azteca soup, and the surf and turf meal for two with steak, lobster and shrimp. IT WAS SO GOOD. Not to mention the (very large) cocktails were also amazing. If you ever go to Cabo, please do not miss Edith’s!!

  • One last spot you absolutely cannot miss in Cabo is Gardenias for fish and shrimp tacos. They are so so good and I love that they bring your tacos to the table with all of the fixings (cabbage, every kind of salsa you could want, regular crema, avocado crema and grilled jalepeno’s) and you get to make your tacos the way you want.

  • Last Mexico bullet but we stayed at Le Blanc Cabo and our favorite and most frequented restaurant on the property was their ocean-side Mexican restaurant called Ocean and we really enjoyed the fish tacos, ceviche (of many varieties), the lobster pozoles, and the tortilla soup.

  • I just discovered the Sausages by Amylu Roasted Garlic & Asiago Sausages and I ate them for lunch on salads and with eggs. They are SO good and when you crisp them up in the pan and the cheese melts and gets crispy. Highly recommend!

  • November also means all things Thanksgiving and for this first one, I wanted to highlight our delicious Friendsgiving meal. This year we decided to make things that we had been wanted to try or that we usually don’t make for our regular Thanksgiving meals. This year I cooked Kay Chun’s French Onion Stuffing, roast chicken, and Edward Lee’s Collards and Kimchi. My friends brought some other delicious things that we all enjoyed together!

  • Our actual Thanksgiving meal was entirely cooked by me! This is the first year I did everything on my own from start to finish and I am very proud with how it turned out! I made baked macaroni and cheese (which will be on my Thanksgiving table moving forward), my shaved Brussels sprouts salad, roasted turkey, braised short ribs, mashed potatoes, a take on my great grandmother’s stuffing, Erin Jeanne McDowell’s parker house rolls, gravy, pumpkin chocolate chip bread, and pecan pie. My mother in-law made cranberry sauce and green bean casserole.

  • We spent two weeks in November in the Boston area and tried a few new restaurants we really loved- one was Frenchie and the other was Black Lamb.

  • I picked up some instant oatmeal from Whole Foods and decided to try this Yi Shi Matcha Latte Oatmeal and thought it was delicious! I added fresh raspberries and it was delightful! I will definitely be repurchasing!

Other Things That Made Me Happy

  • WE GOT MARRIED!!!!!!!! You can read all about our wedding here but it was truly the best weekend ever and it was so special to have everyone we loved in SF.

  • I watched The Empress on Netflix and I really loved it. It is a German Netflix show but it is amazingly done and gave me the history of an empire and monarchs I didn’t know much about!

  • After getting married, we went to Cabo for a Honeymoon (pt. 1) where we stayed at Le Blanc Cabo resort and all we did was read, lay in the sun, drink very fruity drinks and eat! It was very relaxing which was perfect after a support over-stimulating weekend!
