the roundup: july 2023

Foodie:

  • We started off July with a road trip from DC to Cape Cod and we ended up spending a night in Greenwich, CT (which was so so cute) and ate at a lovely Italian place called Doppio. We really enjoyed our meal and it was so nice to sit outside and have a glass of wine after a long car day.

  • On our second leg of our DC to Cape Cod road trip we stopped at The Place Restaurant in Guilford, CT because Grossy Pelosi had posted about it a few weeks back and it did not disappoint. Everything they have is cooked on these huge outdoor grills and it was amazing. We loved the roasted clams and the steamers the most, but the grilled lobster and chicken were also unreal. This should absolutely be on your list if you are in the area.

  • In my book, the 4th of July equals a BBQ and this year was no different. We grilled burgers, hotdogs, corn and zucchini and made some homemade coleslaw and watermelon. It was so good! I love to grill! We also bought supplies for s’mores but unfortunately got rained out.

  • We celebrated a good friend’s birthday at Tiger Fork and I realized that I hadn’t been there in-person since pre-pandemic! We had such a nice meal and I am excited to go back. The stand outs for me were the cucumber salad, the jah leung and the pork belly. I also love their fried rice because it has all my faves in it (sausage, shrimp and eggs).

  • I found these Petit Suisse Montebourg with Fruits at Whole Foods on sale and boy am I glad I picked these up. They taste like mini yogurts with real dairy and fruit and no artificial flavors. Also, totally a me problem, but I get sick of yogurt fast so this is the perfect size. I did a bit of research since this isn’t technically yogurt and apparently Petit-Suisse is a double cream soft cheese made with prized Normandy cow’s milk. The texture is a bit more firm than yogurt but super similar and a lot richer. I have a feeling I will be buying these all summer!

  • One of my favorite food content creator's right now is @CafeHailee on Instagram and I finally made a recipe from her blog! I made her potato caesar salad and it was delicious! Her recipes are super easy to follow and very approachable. I will definitely be reaching for her recipes more often for my rotation.

  • Inspired by our trip to Paris and the delicious hummus at L’As du Falafel, I made this delicious hummus with spiced beef. This is definitely being added to our meal rotation!

  • We did our yearly summer crab feast at Cantler’s Riverside Inn and everything was perfect. We did a dozen large blue crabs and all the amazing sides (hush puppies, sweet potato fries, peel and eat shrimp, clam strips, etc.).

Drinks:

  • I picked up this Gulp Hablo Orange wine from La Mancha, Spain, on our way up to the Cape and I really enjoyed it! It is super refreshing and drinkable and perfect for a hot day.

  • We spent the day at Old Westminster Winery in Maryland and it was delightful! The property is beautiful and about 1.5 hours from DC. We loved their 2022 Rose and the Happy Camper cider.

Other Things:

  • We spent the first week of July in Cape Cod and you can read all about what we ate while we were there here. We had a really nice time and are already thinking about our next trip out there.

  • I bought three Teleties hair clips and it is safe to say that I am obsessed. They are comfy to wear, bendable and are large enough to hold all of my (very thick) hair. I legit got rid of all of my other hair clips because these are so far superior.
