The RoundUp: July 2022
Favorite Foodie Things:
We returned to one of our newer favorite DC spots for dinner, Lutece, for an incredible meal. It was amazing and we tried their grilled cabbage started and holy moly, it was like nothing I have ever had before.
One of our friends had a birthday this month and his favorite kind of cake is carrot cake, so I made Claire Saffitz’s recipe for carrot cake (minus the nuts) and her recipe for cream cheese frosting. It was SO good and definitely reignited my love for carrot cake.
Truthfully, this was a very influenceable moment for me. Once minute I was watching food videos on Instagram and the next minute I was making this recipe for peanut chili noodles. It was one spoonful of creamy peanut butter mixed with some hot water to dilute it, one spoonful of soy sauce, one spoonful of chili crisp/chili oil (whatever you have in your house). Toss with cooked ramen noodles and enjoy. THEY WERE AMAZING and it took all of 3 minutes.
This month we made Half Baked Harvest’s Grilled Jalapeno Peach Quinoa Salad (without the feta) and it was sooooo yummy and refreshing. It held up so nicely in the refrigerator for a few days. We added some grilled shrimp on top and it was the perfect hot-day meal. Next time I make this, I would definitely recommend grilling the peaches instead.
Sushi Taro is always a winner in my book, but we hadn’t had it in a while and it was such a treat!
I am being very dramatic when I say “I got my first commission”!! One of my friend’s dads asked me to bake a cake for a party he was having and I made a vanilla cake with a whiskey caramel butter cream frosting. I hope it was good!!
My friends and I had a big puppy playdate and we ordered Taqueria Xochi delivery and it was really delicious. As a Californian in DC, I have had a pretty hard time finding good tacos here, and these were definitely delicious!
Other Things That Made Me Happy:
This year for the 4th of July, all of our friends in DC were out of town, but that did not stop us from grilling on our roof and making some delicious burgers! It was honestly perfect (and the roof wasn’t crowded!)
I have been on the hunt for a flattering one piece bathing suit and I finally found one at J. Crew. I like this one because it is ruched across the torso and soooooo flattering. I liked it so much that I got it in two colors.
My bachelorette party in Montreal was this month and it was a hoot- you can read more about it here.
I won’t post a picture, but I finally found my wedding rehearsal dinner dress, after what feels like 8 months of searching. I have had the hardest time trying to find a rehearsal dinner dress because I felt like there was no rules/guidelines. It is so much harder to pick something when you don’t really know what you are supposed to wear.
