Chocolate Orange Swirl Loaf Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1 3/4 cup of flour (AP)

  • 1 cup of sugar

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) of melted butter

  • 1/2 cup of buttermilk

  • zest of 1 orange

  • 1/4 tsp of salt

  • 1/4 tsp of baking soda

  • 1 tsp of baking powder

  • 1 tbsp of cocoa powder

  • 1 dash of vanilla extract

  • 1 dash of orange extract

Preheat your oven to 350F and line a baking loaf with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, add your sugar and orange zest. Rub the two together with your fingers, until it is fragrent and well incorporated.

Using an electric mixer, mix in the melted butter, half a dash of vanilla extract and buttermilk.

Add in the salt, baking soda, baking powder and flour and mix well.

Take about 1/3 of the batter and move it to another bowl. Mix in the cocoa powder and the over half dash of the vanilla. mix well. The batter should look chocolately.

In the main bowl, add in a dash of the orange extract.

Pour the original batter into your baking loaf, and then pour the chocolate batter on top. Using a chopstick or a fork, swirl the two batters together, making sure not to mix too well so the whole batter doesn’t turn to chocolate.

Bake for about 40 minutes or until the loaf is fully cooked.
