2021 Food-Lover Holiday Gift Guide

Searching for a gift for the foo-lover in your life? Here are some ideas/ things I would want to receive!

Note: all cookbooks I link are from an AMAZING local cookbook store in Washington, DC called Bold Fork Books. Please try to support small and local businesses when you can this holiday season!

That Sounds So Good by Carla Lalli Music (cookbook) - I am a MASSIVE Carla Lalli Music fan and her cookbooks are absolutely incredible. I truly use them to make dinners most weeks. They are easy to follow recipes that make you feel like you are really making a special meal! If you are looking to complete the set, you could also get them Where Cooking Begins!

Some sort of salt jar and a box of Maldon Flakey Salt! - While this might seem simple, I think it is one of those things that people just don’t normal treat themselves to. Maldon is a luxury salt that any food lover would really appreciate and it would be so well paired with a gorgeous salt jar/pot! Here are some of my favorite salt jars at the moment:

Italian American by Angie Rito and Scott Tacinelli just came out and it is an incredible cookbook- especially for those whole like to entertain and host dinner parties (and, of course, like Italian food!)

In line with the book above, send someone a package of fresh pasta (and sauce, if you are feeling crazy) from Mill Valley Pasta Co. They will not be disappointed!

A fun food print by Marcella Kriebel - I love getting prints/ art as gifts (even better if it is framed!). I have quite a few of her watercolor prints in my house and they always get attention! Below are some of the ones I have hanging in my home!

For the baker in your life what better gift than the cookie Bible: Dorie’s Cookies by Dorie Greenspan - this book has absolutely any and all cookie recipes you could possibly think of and would make a home baker super happy! Other amazing options for bakers in your life would be Dessert Person by Clarie Saffitz or the Book on Pie by Erin Jeanne McDowell.

Similar to the salt/ salt jar concept, what about a beautiful oil bottle and some lovely olive oil? Again, something special that they wouldn’t go out of their way, but something they would use ALL the time!

Literally anything from the Momofuku Pantry - they will thank you! You could even through in Dave Chang’s Memoir, Eat a Peach, or his new cookbook, Cooking at Home.

In a very similar vein, anything from the China Live (in SF) pantry is also amazing! I recommend the chili oil, Chinese mustard and the famous chili bean sauce!

A great idea for the foodie that has everything, would be some fun spices from my favorite Seattle-based spice company, Spiceology. You really can’t go wrong with any spices but I would take a look at their variety packs and their chef collaborations for something extra special.

If you are local to the Washington, DC area, and have a wine lover you are buying a gift for, check out Reveler’s Hour wine shop! They have a great variety of super special wines!

If you are trying to spoil someone I would get them a Staub Cast Iron Cocette or some sort of Staub or Le Creuset Dutch oven. As someone who loves to cook, it is something I use ALL the time and I am sure another home chef would appreciate it!
