Best Burgers in DC

Burgers in Washington, DC are not hard to find on a menu, but there are some that stand taller than the rest. I think a really amazing burger is quite possible one of the best bite on this planet.

Here is a list of my favorite burgers around the District!

Melange at Wet Dog Tavern: the Melange burger is probably one of DC’s best kept secrets. Hidden in the back patio of Wet Dog Tavern, Chef Elias, flips some serious patties. There are usually three burger options on the menu, The Classic, some sort of specialty burger and a veggie burger option (shroom burger). My favorite is The Classic, which comes with American cheese, iceberg lettuce, pickled red onions, tomato and brown butter aioli (I will wait while you wipe your drool).

Lucky Buns: I just love everything about Lucky Buns; I like the food, I like that they serve Asian beers, and love the classic diner meets tiki-hut theme they have going on. At Lucky Buns, you can pick your internationally inspired burger (and you have a choice of a beef burger or a chicken burger), and pick you side (you can go with classic fries, or patatas bravas or even an Asian cucumber salad). My favorite burger, if you are in the mood for something classic, is the Lucky Bun or OG Bun. If you are in the mood for a chicken burger, the Mumbo Bun is not to be missed!

Duke’s Grocery: When Duke’s Grocery first opened in DC back in 2014/2015, I am pretty sure I was the first person there. For a long time, the Duke’s proper burger has reigned supreme in my mind. The patties are juicy, the buns are soft and the best/ most unique thing about this burger, is that they smother is in mayo (not in a gross way) and sweet chili sauce. UNREAL. Do not miss Duke’s for brunch of dinner when you are in DC!

Honorable Mentions:

Bar Charley: Bar Charley is a total neighborhood spot and hidden gem. Located in the basement of building, Bar Charley has an under-ground speak easy meets bistro feel. I cannot say enough great things about the food at Bar Charley (don’t miss the cheese curds!!) but the burger is really a treat!

Le Diplomate: Everyone that visits DC, I send or bring to Le Dip. It is one of my favorite spots in DC because the food is consistently delicious, the atmosphere is charming and takes you right to Paris, and you truly cannot beat the location. While the burger at Le Dip is incredible, it is never my first choice of things to order. Any burger lover would love the burger here, but I just can’t say no to steak frites or a roast chicken!
