memorial day weekend in brooklyn, ny

Thursday:

Thursday we drove the 4+ hours from Washington, DC to Carrol Gardens in Brooklyn and when we got in, there we had takeout from Bar San Miguel (shrimp tacos were very delicious).

Friday:

Friday, we worked from my brother-in-law’s apartment and I took myself on a walk around the neighborhood. I popped into a few local shops to have a browse:

I picked up lunch from East Wind Snack Shop and if I lived in this neighborhood, I would be here all the time. Everything was so good and I had a lovely lychee bobba as well.

Then, later in the evening, we met my family for a delicious meal at Colonie. The celery salad was so good, and I really loved the mushroom pasta, duck and, holy moly, the sticky date cake was something special.

Saturday:

Saturday we woke up and headed to Brooklyn Heights, which was just stunning, and had brunch at Inga’s Bar. Inga's was honesty perfect. The restaurant is stunning, the staff was so nice and the food was high quality. The scone with ricotta cream and olive oil strawberries was amazing and the morel mushroom benedict was so good.

From brunch we walked from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade to Dumbo and then weaved our way through the Brooklyn Bridge Greenway.

Mid-day we went to the wedding’s welcome drinks at Threes Brewing Gowanus for a few hours and then headed back to Atlantic Ave. for some wandering, pizza refuel at Table 87, and shopping.

Here are some more shops we popped into:

For dinner, we went to Williamsburg and ate at Antica Pesa and had a really amazing meal. This is their second location outside of Rome and all their staff are from Italy. I loved the fennel salad, the rigatoni all’amatriciana, the fiorentina steak and the tiramisu.

Sunday:

On Sunday, we went back to Williamsburg for some shopping but started with brunch at Gertie. I have been wanting to try Gertie for some time now and everything was so good. I am a sucker for a modern Jewish restaurant. I especially loved the schnitzel sandwich, matzo ball soup, and the challah French toast.

After brunch we walked straight up Grand Street to Wythe Ave and then wove our way between Wythe and N 1st to N 6th Street.

Be sure to stop in Leif - it is the sweetest home goods shop.

Honestly, this shopping was the best. They had EVERYTHING. J. Crew, Glossier, Madewell, Everlane, Ganni, On Running, Kith, Catbird, Cos, etc. If you are going to Williamsburg, make sure you carve our some serious shopping time in this area.

I picked up a chocolate babka from Shelsky’s to bring home to DC and then we went to the wedding (aka why we were in Brooklyn in the first place).

The wedding was at 501 Union and it was a really nice venue!

Monday:

Monday we packed up, grabbed a lovely breakfast at Cafe Luluc and same bagels to go at Black Seed Bagels and started our trek home!

Every time I have gone to New York City, I have never spent any time in Brooklyn. I am so glad we got time to see a different part of the city area and I totally see the appeal!
