the roundup: november 2023

Food:

  • If you remember from my October 2023 Round up post, I ate at Houng Viet Restaurant in the Eden Center, well, huge news to me… they deliver so I obviously ordered it while my husband was our of town. I tried some new things and everything was so amazing. including a new noodle soup call hu tieu nam vang and it was absolutely unreal.

  • For our 1 year wedding anniversary, we decided to try Sushi Nakazawa and we had such a lovely and delicious meal. The service was amazing, and the fish quality was event better. There wasn’t a bite I did not enjoy!

  • If you haven’t tried the food and hospitality from Martha Dear, you are missing out! I think Martha Dear is such a hidden gem and the food is just so so good and homey. I love their salads, sides and their pizza is just unreal. They use a sourdough crust that is so delicious and chewy and they have amazing and innovative flavors. They just put a shrimp scampi pizza on the menu and it is CHEF’S KISS.

  • We went to Incheon this month to try their new a la carte menu and it was unreal. I really, truly, think that Incheon is one of the best restaurants in the DMV area. I didn’t snap any pictures because I was too busy enjoying!

  • I made this crispy white bean, kale and parmesan skillet from Ali Slagle’s cookbook, “I Dream of Dinner” and it was quite easy and delightful. I am enjoying finding ways to incorporate more veg-only meals into my diet.

  • November means Thanksgiving and I made about 80% of the Thanksgiving meal this year. TBH it wasn’t my absolute best work, but I was pretty proud of my mac and cheese and the newest addition was this Salted Maple Pie that was so easy and delicious.

  • My friend made some pho broth with her turkey carcass and I am so lucky she shared it with me! It was super rich and flavorful and made a delicious meal as the temps in DC have just about reached zero (just kidding, I am being dramatic, they have dropped to the low 40’s).

Other Things:

  • November 2023 marks us as one year married! How crazy that a full year has gone by!

  • I bought a new candle from Anthropologie this month and it is just perfect for Fall/Winter. It is cozy, with warm nots of honey and vanilla and a bit jolly with the cedar wood.

  • Love Island Games started in November and I could not be more thrilled. The Love Island franchise is my absolute guilty pleasure so to see so many favorite Islanders return for a new show!!

  • My husband and I attended the March for Israel in Washington, DC, with 250,000+ people and it was incredibly powerful.

  • I ordered my Hanukkah cards as well as this very cute “brisket” bracelet from a Jewish-owned small business called Everyday Yiddish. If you are looking for some great Jewish cards or just want to spread some Jewish joy, please go check her shop out.
