The RoundUp: January 2022

Favorite Foodie Things:

  • Okay, first things first, January is my birthday month! (Jan. 5th for those taking notes!). To celebrate on the actual day, we had some treats sent from family - District Doughnuts- and then ordered a massive take out meal from Tiger Fork for dinner. That weekend, we also had friends over and made our kitchen island into an appetizer charcuterie board!

  • The other birthday celebration was a reservation at Incheon Restaurant in Annandale, VA which was just absolutely amazing. Incheon serves innovative Korean food through a tasting menu. The food was incredible, the wine pairings were perfect and the service and being able to chat to the chef was just such a great experience. I cant wait to go back when the menu changes!

  • I got the new Carla Lalli Music cookbook, “That Sounds So Good” for Hannukah and we have been making the Herbed Rice with Shrimpy Kimchi Tomato Sauce recipe. It is so so good and easy to make. It is the perfect weeknight meal to switch things up.

  • We ordered Korean chicken wings from Kochix and they were DELICIOUS!!! They were crispy, not too bready/doughy, juicy chicken and the sauces were amazing. Highly recommend if you are in the DC area!

  • I feel like I have posted about this before, but honestly, who cares, it deserves 87 posts. Please go to the Fairfax, VA H Mart and go to the food court and find the stand that does bulgogi stone pot because it will change your life. I actually dream of this, it is so stinkin’ good.

  • We ordered lunch from Abunai for the first time this month. We were craving poke and it looked delicious! The poke was great but the spam musubi… AMAZING!

  • Lastly, I made challah with bread flour for the first time, and it was honestly game changing. I have updated my challah recipe, here, to include bread flour. It came out so light and perfectly fluffy.

Other Things That Make Me Happy:

  • January has been COLD. Like really, really cold. I am fully aware that DC is on the East Coast and has “winters” but it has been stupidly cold. Think 25F feels like 15F for what feels like the entire month. With the cold, we have also gotten a fair amount of snow, which is all fun and dandy until you need to walk your dog or clear off your car. Check out some pictures of my neighborhood covered in snow!

  • I may be a bit late to the game, but I have discovered the softest leggings/loungewear out there. Beyond Yoga has the softest stuff ever. I now have two pairs of leggings in navy and forest green (with a pair of flared black ones on the way), a forest green tank and forest green cropped sweatshirt. I cannot recommend this brand enough!

  • I also booked a hair artist for our wedding AND bought my wedding band this month!! Things are starting to shape up!

  • I have made a few new friends this month and also tried to go more consistently to Orange Theory Fitness and I am feeling good about both!
