the roundup: august 2023

Food:

  • We started off August in London and you can read all about what we ate while we were there, here.

  • I made Pinch of Yum’s Butter Chicken Meatball recipe this month and it did not disappoint! It is so easy and packs a ton of flavor. I added a tad bit more garam masala, did a whole onion instead of a half and opted for coconut milk instead of cream. I highly recommend giving it a try!

  • We went to Ernest in San Francisco and it was one of the best meals I have had in a while. Chef Brandon Rice is innovating to the next level, blending California cooking and ingredients with the international cuisines that influence SF.

  • If you are from Marin County, CA you probably understand the chokehold that a Comfort’s Chinese Chicken salad holds on you. Nothing compares to the super savory, light and crunchy salad. It is pretty hard to beat and I cannot be home without at least a few Comfort’s meals.

  • Unfortunately we started off our trip to SF with COVID and when we need soup, my dad delivers. He made us oxtail Taiwanese beef noodle soup and it did not miss. It was so decadent and delicious.

  • While grabbing a drink in North Beach, we had to try out Golden Boy Pizza and it was delicious. They do a really good job on their crust and sauce and if you are in the area, I would recommend stopping by their window.

  • If you know me, you know there is never a trip home without my favorite sushi at Kabuto. It truly never misses. It is my favorite spot, possibly ever, for sushi. They have the nicest staff, the freshest fish and don’t skimp on creativity.

Drinks:

  • We went to Stone Tower Winery for a friends 30th birthday and it was such a beautiful property! I really enjoyed their Petit Manseng.

  • We took another trip (with the dogs) to Scribe Winery and had a lovely day on the knoll. I have mentioned Scribe before and while it isn’t my favorite wine in the world, all their wines are super drinkable and I prefer their Pet-Nat.

Other Things:

  • We kicked off August in London, actually! We went for a friend’s wedding but stayed the whole week. We had a great time, eating a lot of great food, shopping, walking around and even going to Manchester for the day to see Manchester United play!

  • I tried dip nail polish for the first time ever and man, do I prefer it to gel. I hate that gel sort of starts to peel away from your nail on its own, dip doesn’t do this!

  • As I mentioned above, we spent the majority of the month in the Bay Area and it truly is my happy place.
