Chicken Wontons

Ingredients:

  • 1 package of Wonton wrappers

  • 1 package of ground chicken

  • 6 green onions; sliced thin

  • 3 cloves of garlic; minced

  • 1 inch chunk of garlic; minced

  • 6 button mushrooms; minced (you can use any type of mushrooms you have handy)

  • 2 tbsp of soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp of sesame oil

  • 1 pinch of Chinese Five Spice

  • 1 egg

In a large mixing bowl, mix together the ground chicken, mushrooms, green onions, garlic and ginger. I used a plastic glove to really get in there, but feel free to use a spoon or some chopsticks.

Mix in the soy sauce, sesame oil, Chinese Five Spice and the egg. Mix again and make sure the filling mixture is super well mixed and looks like a paste.

Fill up a small bowl with water- this is what you will use to seal the won ton wrapper. On a clean cutting board, lay out a few won ton wrappers, and using a teaspoon measure to measure out filling into the wrap. Dip a finger into your water bowl and run your finger along two edges of the won ton wrapper.

You can seal your wontons any way that works for you. I folded the edges into a crimped design and then I got worried they weren’t sealed enough and used a fork to press down the edges.

Boil a large pot of water and place around 6-10 won tons into the boiling water. You can put as many wontons in the pot without fully crowding the pot. Boil for about 6 minutes- the won tons should float up to the top.

Using a slotted spatula, pull the wontons out of the water and place in a bowl. Top with a drizzle of sesame oil, soy sauce, sesame seeds and chili flakes. Enjoy warm!
