The RoundUp: March 2021

Here is my second installment of ‘The Round Up”- the theme of this month was “Zoom Passover, again?!!”

Favorite Foodie Things:

  • At the beginning of March, I made New York Times Cooking Chicken Scaloppine with Lemon and man, was it tasty. it is essentially an Italian version of Schnitzel with a delicious lemony gravy to go on top of it. I like that this wasn’t a heavy fry and was super easy to make. I served it with a Caprese Salad and it was chef’s kisses, delicious!

  • This is nothing new in my list recipe repeats, but I truly just love Chris Kimball’s recipe, Miso- Ginger Chicken Salad from the Milk Street: Tuesday Nights cookbook. (Also this cookbook is also one of my most-reached-for cookbooks.) This chicken salad has no mayo (not that I have anything against mayo, in fact, I probably love mayo a little too much), or dairy and is perfect to make on a Sunday and keep in your fridge all week. I usually make a salad with mixed greens, chopped tomatoes and cucumbers, maybe an avocado if I am feeling fancy. Then I drizzle the salad with olive oil, red wine vinegar, salt and pepper and plop a generous scoop of the chicken salad on top. I also love eating it with the pita crackers from Whole Foods.

  • My new SCANPANS!!! I am finally an adult and have graduated to owning good quality pots & pans. (Thanks, Bruce!). They are just so great. Sturdy, non-stick, durable, and just great! This is the set I got and have been using.

  • Can we just talk about the cheddar bagels from Call Your Mother Deli? They are just so delicious. This month we literally bought a few to put in our cookie jar.

  • Now I wouldn’t say this is a “March find” but more like a “March Appreciation”. For the last 2 ish years, I have been ordering most of my spices on Spiceology. They have everything you need to stock your kitchen with the basics and some fun and interesting spice combos and collaborations. Also, love a good small business!

  • One of my 2021 goals is to cook more from my cookbook collection, and with that, I have used it as an excuse to add to my collection. I recently bought, Jew-ish by Jake Cohen (made the roast chicken soup for Passover and it was delicious). I think this is an incredibly millennial cookbook but I also really love that it makes Jewish cooking and food both trendy and incredibly approachable. I think it is a great book to get young Jewish people interested in cooking our food and keeping our traditions and heritage alive with a modern twist.

  • March also brought the second year of virtual Passover celebrations but it did mean that I got to perfect making a sedar dinner on my own. This year the menu included; matzo ball soup, charoset, egg salad, braised short ribs, potato kugel, mushroom quiche, Israeli salad, and for dessert, a coconut macaroon crusted cheese cake with a raspberry and cherry compote.

Other Things That Made Me Happy:

  • Has anyone worn anything but sweats for a year? I truly cannot remember the last time that denim of any form touched my body. I recently ordered this sweat set- actually I don’t think it is technically a set, but it matches, whatever- from GAP and I love it! Get the sweatshirt here and the sweatpants here.

  • I have been on the hunt for the perfect scrunchie for a while now and I have finally found it! (Thanks to one of my friends, McCall!!). I am obsessed with the Lululemon Uplifting Scrunchies! They are gentle, don’t tug, pull, or get caught, and most importantly, they don’t stretch out.

  • After about a 4 year stint of subconsciously trying to avoid the news (I wonder why?!!?), I am really trying to get back into being an informed individual. Lately, I have really been enjoying tuning into “Up First: NPR” in the morning to get my daily dose of “what the heck is going on in the world”. It has been a great listen when I walk my dog in the morning.

  • I have been using the Ren Skincare Evercare line since mid-February (Evercare Overnight Recovery Balm, Evercare Global Protection Day Cream, and the Evercare Gentle Cleansing Milk) and I just love it. It is so calming and great for sensitive skin. It leaves my skin feeling clean and nourished and I especially love that Ren is a clean skincare brand.

  • This month also marks something incredibly important! My parents got their 2nd dose of the vaccine! I got my vaccine, and so did my fiancé and my sister. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.
